Speaking to him will play a quick cinematic and give you the quest Warlords of Draenor: The Dark Portal, which will start the Assault on the Dark Portal questline. To get to Blasted Lands, you can speak with the Thrallmar Mage, who is downstairs in the Orgrimmar Portal Room.
I managed to do complete this quest with a level 60 Hunter. I am a level 60 Mage. Yes, we two-manned this; it IS possible. Here is our strategy: 1) Travel to the mountain called Rise of the Defiler in the Blasted Lands and look for Runes of Defiler around the mountain. 2) The person with the quest unequips all armor and purposely dies.Blasted Lands were once populated by centaurs. Two Bloodmages near the enterance of the zone gives you 5 quests.If you're horde, there's a portal in the cleft of shadows. Take the portal in your faction capital. Take the Blasted Lands portal in the mage tower in Stormwind (mage quarter) and then go through the dark portal there. :) Edit: You want the Hellfire Peninsula portal in the mage tower, I forgot they switched it with WOD. Blasted Lands is a place where the land is twisted by the Dark Portal it hosts. There is only one road in the region guarded by the Nethergarde Keep, that is a fortress of Stormwind tasked to protect the rest of the continent from demons and keep an eye on the Dark Portal. The red rocks of the region do not come by their color naturally.
