I think there's one situation where Kinetic Assault is the better of the two, and that's if you're running a melee build driven by item 80 at low player count; the initiative and versatile top action are just too good for the build. I always play a ranged/healing Cragheart. The fun stuff seems just so difficult and out there to pull off. I tried my darnedest to make use of the obstacle gameplay but it always fell short or required me to make significant plays just to get the ball rolling on them. Cragheart is awesome because of the ability you mentioned and all the ones related to obstacles. You won't get that from any other class, but it shouldn't stop you from retiring your character.
